“From the Abbey Road studio archives!

Excellent stereo studio outtakes from the studio sessions to John Lennon‘s first proper solo album “John Lennon / Plasic Ono Band”. 26 September- 9 October 1970.”

Track 1 – early take – guitar based arrangement

Track 2 – alternate mix of the released version – with additionel rythm guitar and different “primal screams” at the end

Track 3 – early run-through

Track 4 – early take

Track 5 – instrumental take

Track 6 – alternate mix with additional bongo player

Track 7 – here John plays the song in a folky guitar picking style

Track 8 – early take

Track 9 – a hard driving John leads his fellow musicians, Klaus V. & Ringo, through a lengthy rehearsal – the actually plays the song twice in a row – at a faster pace. Incoporates unused song-elements

Track 10 – this take already sounds more like the “finished article”. By this time, John still had no idea how to end this song. He later solved the problem by adding a line about Guy Fawkes day and an added “explosion”. The funny noice that can be heard throughout this take is someone -Yoko?- playing a mouth organ in order to “enhance” the rythm track. This idea was thanfully abandoned

Track 11 – just John singing and stumming his guitar

Track 12 – this time John uses a folky picking guitar style to accompany himself

Track 13 – the final arrangement now slowly comes into place with added piano playing by Phil Spector

Track 14 – now, like on the record, the song intro is solely played piano

Track 15 – loose rehearsal with the whole band

Track 16 – rough mix

Track 17 – early take

Track 18 – early take with John playing guitar, accompanied by bass and drums

Track 19 – complete version

Track 20 – during the recording session, John, Klaus V. & Ringo relax by playing some old Rock ‘n‘ Roll numbers that they all know and love

Track 21 – added track from Rock ‘n‘ Roll Jam
